Official Tier List (2021)
The thirteenth Super Smash Bros. Melee tier list was released on March 29, 2021, the first one assembled by PG Stats instead of the Smash Back Room and the first to use sub-tiers. It was built from the personal lists of 64 of the top ranked players of the 2019 MPGR season, with the math handled by PracticalTAS. Voters were told to assume the Ice Climbers could wobble. Fox, Marth, Jigglypuff and Falco opened the S tier, the biggest surprise being Jigglypuff reaching the top 3 for the first time since 2010, while Bowser fell back to the bottom of the list for the first time since 2003.

PG Stats also ran the 2021 Melee Community Tier List, a survey with 1,077 responses from players across the competitive scene, released alongside the thirteenth official list. The community kept the same order with three swaps: Jigglypuff and Falco traded places inside the top 4, Young Link climbed past Donkey Kong, and Ness moved ahead of Pichu. Fox and Marth still sit at the very top, and Bowser, Kirby and Zelda still sit at the bottom, which is how Melee players have read the matchup chart for years.
