Final Official Tier List (December 2017)
The fourth and final Super Smash Bros. 4 tier list was released by the Smash 4 Back Room on December 11, 2017, the first one built on version 1.1.7, the game's last balance patch. Bayonetta claimed the top spot ahead of Cloud and Diddy Kong, closing a climb that started at 11th place, while Marth (+30), Lucina (+33) and Mewtwo (+27) finished with the biggest rises of the game's lifespan. The three Mii Fighters were left off the ballot because of their rarity in the meta and unstable legality, and characters separated by less than 0.1 points were treated as tied, which is why Cloud and Diddy Kong, Fox and Sonic, Marth and Ryu, Ness and Lucas, Robin and Samus, and Ganondorf and Zelda share their spots below.

First Official Tier List (February 2016)
The first Smash 4 Back Room tier list arrived on February 1, 2016, while the game was still on patch 1.1.3. It was voted on by 53 high-level players, ignored custom special moves, and assumed the Mii Fighters and Palutena were restricted to their default movesets. Sheik, Zero Suit Samus and Rosalina & Luma opened the S tier, with Ryu and Pikachu right behind — but Bayonetta and Corrin had not been released yet, and version 1.1.4 landed two days later with the first of the balance patches that would soon redraw the whole board.

Seven fighters joined the roster after launch, and the final Back Room list of December 2017 ranked all of them: Mewtwo, Lucas, Roy, Ryu, Cloud, Corrin and Bayonetta. Bayonetta and Cloud finished in the S tier, Ryu and Mewtwo in A, Corrin in B, Lucas in C and Roy in E — a DLC run that ended with the ballot's first and joint second place belonging to newcomers.
