Five battles stand between the eight badges and the Hall of Fame, and this is the order they hit hardest.

Emerald pits two teams against Hoenn at the same time. Archie commands Team Aqua and Kyogre, Maxie commands Team Magma and Groudon, and the weather war in Sootopolis is the climax of both arcs. Their admins fill the lower rows: Courtney and Shelly on the field with Camerupt and Sharpedo, Matt with the heavy hitters and Tabitha behind the scenes. This is the full antagonist cast, from the first grunt on Route 110 to the legendary showdown at the Cave of Origin.

The Battle Frontier is Emerald's post-game, and its seven facilities are guarded by the Frontier Brains, every one of them carrying a signature team and a gold symbol. Anabel and Brandon rank highest for the Battle Tower and the pyramid of legendaries, with Greta and Spenser close behind for typing mastery and endurance. Noland, Tucker and Lucy complete the set of the strongest trainers in Hoenn, all of them found only after the credits roll.
